Gluten Free Alcohol

Ever since going Gluten Free I've been confused about what alcohol is safe and what isn't. Some things I've read say it is all safe because of the distilling process, others say that is not so. I ordered a margarita once and felt so sick afterwards (I only had one, so no, it wasn't a hangover!) so I've kind of just stayed clear of the stuff because I never could find a clear answer. While on vacation I really wanted a margarita so I started doing a little research and I found this list- so fabulous! So happy to finally know what is safe and what isn't.

  1. I looked into this and the government states that anything that is under 20 parts per million is considered gluten free. I believe it all depends on your sensitivity as I know some severe celiac people who can't even have products distilled with grain because there is the tiniest amount residue of gluten. The contaimination comes after distillation until the product is bottled. However, you have hit the general consensus. Good work on the List!

  2. ACAI RUM BLEND FOLLOWS VEGAS TRIUMPH WITH LOS ANGELES COMPETITION GOLD

    LOS ANGELES, CA -- 6/10/2013

GRC Beverages, LLC was recently awarded a Gold medal at the 2013 Los Angeles International Spirits Competition for its unique all natural ready-to-drink alcoholic mixer, Xi Acai.

Judges gave the Acai Alcohol blend 90 points signifying it as a "superb" and "highly recommended" selection, amongst the 261 brands entered into the International Competition.

For a mold-breaking artisinal RTD/alcoholic mixer, with a claimed 37 gluten free calories per ounce, Xi Acai ("ZEE- ah-sigh-EE") has done very well in the three months since its launch at the 2013 Nightclub Bar Show, where it was regarded by drinkspirits.com as one of the "Best New Products on the Floor." The most unique and exciting feature of Xi Acai is that it fits perfectly onto the back bar of any 5 star mixology lounge, providing a delicious berry blast to any pre-existing or new signature cocktail built around the rising star liquor brand, or on the super market shelf where it makes serving mixology-quality berry cocktails at home an easy to access option for even the novice bartender, who can serve it over ice, or in any number of easy to make combinations.

Xi Acai is produced in Mountain View California, combining Mountain View distilled rum, Brazilian Acai, and American-sourced black berry, lime, and agave nectar. For more information, visit www.xicocktails.com or visit on facebook at www.facebook.com/xicocktails

  4. I don't have celiac, I am allergic to wheat. Please explain to me how something can be classified gluten free yet made from 100% wheat? Sounds like an oxymoron to me. Makes me question the authenticity of this list.

  6. Gluten proteins do not survive in volatile substance, according to UC DAVIS professor of distillation class & other experts. Up to you whether to drink those made with wheat or not, I still get nervous but I trust the professor.
